ChatGPT has been hyped in the news over the last several months as a potential breakthrough in artificial intelligent chatbots. OpenAI, the firm behind its development launched the bot in November 2022. It was praised by the common tech enthusiast as a potential disrupter in the current way we engage with artificial intelligence as humans. A primary function of ChatGPT is to provide useful knowledge in human interaction and perform simple tasks with reliable accuracy. The bot undergoes training via interaction with humans and other measures. Supervision and reinforcement are two methods in this process.
Unfortunately, ChatGPT is not without its disadvantages. Although it can come up with a well thought out answer on various topics, there are reports the bot is incorrect at times. Sometimes it is inaccurate in a big way. On the other hand, this is just the beginning. The ability of ChatGPT to home in on the correct answers and knowledge will likely improve as the product matures in its development. The development may be boosted by Microsoft who is looking further into the technology.
Interestingly, there may be a use in healthcare. It could be implemented in patient records to help a provider determine their past medical history quickly in the event the patient is a poor historian or in an emergency. It could call up other patient past medical records in a database and speed up workflow. In the future, it may even be able to pre-populate charts accurately or help with dictations. The use of AI such as ChatGPT in healthcare would facilitate many aspects and areas if incorporated correctly. Obviously, there would need to be proven accuracy of the bot or checks and balances to ensure quality control. Whether or not your pro AI or against, it will be interesting to see where this takes us in the future.
