So you found yourself a high paying Locum Tenens job or have a meeting in a different state on a regular basis. Things are great at first as the trips are exciting and are something new. Eventually, hotel living becomes a drag and burnout kicks in. You decide it’s time to do something else. You decide to keep traveling but look at several options. Ultimately, you end up looking at alternative places to stay. You come across several options:
- AirBNB – Price is similar or sometimes cheaper than a hotel, and is a great option to feel more at home. I have found this option can temporarily relieve some of the stress of traveling
- Stay on Site – This is great when it exists. Sometimes the hospital will have housing or an extra call room for traveling providers. Unfortunately, living space in this situation is usually limited and it’s sometimes hard to feel like you left work when your shift is over. But, many times it is free which is a plus.
- RV/Motorhome – This is a viable option if you work at a place that has an RV hookup. Although rare, more hospital systems are starting to install short term hookups at their facilities for water, etc. This will give you a more at home feeling if you own the RV. The downsides include extra money for fuel.
As you can see, the list above includes some viable options when looking for a hotel alternative. In my opinion, a nice AirBNB can sometimes bring that home feeling you need to feel more refreshed before your next shift.
